F1 2010: Launch of Lotus-Cosworth T127

13 02 2010

The new Lotus-Cosworth T127 was launched yesterday in its Lotus colors (aka John Deere). Do you think it has enough winglets on its front nose? Umm wow. Even though I’m reminded of John Deere more than Lotus, I still like the livery since I’m biased towards cars in the green color like my Corrado.

F1: The Ugly Ducks

12 02 2010

Ugh. Last year it was the Brawn GBP001 car with the ugly and boring colors, made worse by the fact that they won. Just look at those ugly, bright yellow wheel shrouds.

This year it’s the Renault R30.

I’m usually a fan of the Yellow/Black color combo but not like this! And the red wings are just totally out of place. Let’s not hope they win this year. Which do you think is worse?

USF1 Electrical Wiring System Video

11 02 2010

The USF1 website is just awesome. I’ve mentioned it before, but I have to again. Formula 1 is a sport that is so competitive that many of the teams try and keep everything they do a secret. It’s nice to know that USF1 is willing to put out alot of great information about the development of their car. On the opposite end, Ferrari is the most secretive team. Yes it probably helps them and may be one of the reasons they are successful (the main reason being that they are one of the richest teams), but for the fans I don’t think it’s right. I’m not a fan of Ferrari F1.

On the other hand, Red Bull Racing has been very good about showing and educating fans about the sport and the design of their cars. That’s what makes me a fan of their team. Well, I’m a fan of Sebastian Vettel also because he brings enthusiasm to the sport. Their Red Bull F1 website is also informative. If you think they’re losing their competitive edge by giving away their secrets, they’re not. They still came in second place last year! The guys at Speed Channel, including Peter Windsor of the US F1 team, went out of their way to praise this aspect of their team. So it’s no surprise that US F1 has been equally cooperative. Because of this, I’m not just a fan of them because they represent the US. I suggest you support them too!

USF1 Wiring Case in point, check out their video on the Electrical Wiring System of their F1 car. As a wiring system engineer, this video they posted is right up my alley. What a fun and interesting job it would be to do wiring on an F1 car! There are many electronic systems on an F1 car to keep busy.

Just one look at the steering wheel of a typical F1 car and you can see how complicated and important the wiring must be.

2010 F1: Red Bull Racing RB6 and Virgin VR-01

10 02 2010

One by one the designs of the 2010 Formula 1 cars have been revealed. Today, Red Bull Racing unveiled their Adrian Newey designed RB6. It’s an evolution of the RB5 car of last year that many say was really the best car at the end of the season. The livery and its colors are basically the same, but it is beautiful nonetheless. So far though, I think the best looking livery of 2010 is the new Virgin VR-01. Virgin is one of the new teams of 2010. But I’m still waiting for the reveal of the brand new US F1 car. So far no date has been announced. In the meantime, check out the RB6 and the VR01 below. Click on the pictures to see more info and pics of the respective cars.

The Next Sports Season

10 02 2010

Ok, time for a break from the Apple news. And with the Super Bowl now finished (Congrats to the New Orleans Saints!) what’s next? Well this year we’ve got the Winter Olympics starting next week, and of course March is March Madness and the start of the 2010 Formula 1 season. Then in April baseball begins and maybe I’ll start to follow hockey again. But with hockey and me I never know whether I’ll be into it or not. In any case, I’m looking forward to my first year on my blog to try and make some commentary on the 2010 Sports Season. Stay tuned!

USF1 Website Up and Running

28 12 2009

The 2010 Formula One Season starts in March and is significant because it’ll be the official first race of the American Formula One team. There are rumors swirling that the USF1 team will not be ready by then but the USF1 team principals Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson insist that they will be ready. I sure hope they’ll be! Well at least their website is finally up and running. Click on the picture to check it out. Make sure you read Peter Windsor’s Blog. And for you gearheads out there, check out the Windshear Wind Tunnel website, the most advanced rolling-road wind tunnel in the world that was created by Ken Anderson of the USF1 Team.

2009 Formula 1 Season Finish

6 11 2009

If you’re an engineer and love cars, then there is no reason not to love Formula 1 racing, the highest form of motorsport. Formula 1 has the fastest and most technically advanced cars. Plus the glamour of the sport gives the geeky engineers a chance to hang with some gorgeous people!

F1 2009 at Abu Dhabi

Pictured above is a beautiful shot from www.f1fanatic.co.uk at the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the brand new Yas Marina circuit. It was the last race of what was a fun 2009 Formula 1 season. It will be a season known as the season of underdogs. The usual top teams of Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedes played catchup all season while the young Brawn GP and Red Bull Racing were fighting at the top for the champtionship. In the end, the World Champion driver and the World Manufacturer’s champion were both first time winners. British driver Jenson Button finally won the World Championship after 10 years in the sport. And Brawn GP won the Manufacturer’s championship even though the team almost didn’t have a spot at the beginning of the season. Congrats to them on a wonderful season!

I was pulling for Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing to win it all, but they came up short. However, Vettel was able to be the first winner of the inauguaral Abu Dhabi Grand Prix so I’m happy for that. I’m looking forward to them competing for the championship next year in 2010! But I am also gonna be pulling for the brand new United States Formula 1 team! 2010 is going to be such an exciting year with new rules and the new US team. Peter Windsor is one of the new team principals and with the job he did with SpeedTV covering Formula 1 it’s hard not to root for him! Check out their website at www.usgpe.com.

So for 2010 I’ll be rooting for USF1 and RBR. Can’t wait!

Engine Start

29 07 2009

So here it is. I am finally starting my blog. Blogging has been on my mind for awhile now, and I think I’ve told many people that I’ve been planning to start one but it just hasn’t materialized…until now. Here are some of the things that interest me and that I will be blogging about:

  • Car Stuff (My Corrado and more)
  • Apple/Mac and General Technology and Gadgets
  • Photography (Nikon and My Growth and Experiences)
  • Business Ideas and Entrepreneurship
  • Sports (Formula 1, Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball)

The list will probably grow as time goes on since I’m the type of person who’s always looking for new hobbies and interests to learn about. And now that I’m blogging I hope I can share with my friends and followers my passions!

So which of those subjects would you look forward to reading about the most?
