WordPress FTW

31 10 2009

I’ve decided to make the move to WordPress from Blogger. I originally chose Blogger because they allowed me to write my own code to design the look of my website. But that just took way too much time and I found this lovely WordPress design that you see now. It fits most of what I wanted my blog to look like. Props to Jide for designing this template!

So now I can finally start developing my content. I’m excited I hope you are too!

Engineers are known for putting function before form. I am an engineer by education and trade and I’ve been told more than once “You’re such an engineer.” So I guess I chose the right profession! However, I’ve always appreciated good industrial designs and I admire those who have the talent and the eye for aesthetics. My blog will be my attempt to show that I too have at least a little bit of an industrial designer in me.

I think the basic blogger templates emphasize function over form. Luckily, blogger allows for a bit of freedom to change the template and I am going to take full advantage of it. The visual challenge of a blog site is to create a page that is fun to visit and navigate, while allowing for the content to be read with the least bit of eye strain. I hope you can appreciate the look of my blog when I finally begin posting regularly! It may take some time because I will have to learn some code. In the meantime, check out the following links.

These are the sites I will be using to learn how to code and create my template. Plus of course alot of trial and error with existing blogger templates. I have taken intro comp science classes in college so some of it made sense to me from the beginning:

And the following should whet your appetite for some fancy blog designs.
